Well, actually I didn’t have the money to hire an assistant. Not at the beginning. (I had just hired myself… and I was expensive!)

When I say I hired an assistant I mean that I pretended to have an assistant.

I made sure that all my correspondence went to a special inbox that would be handled by “Olivia.”

(I love that name. I would have named one of my daughters Olivia, but my husband said it wasn’t Italian enough. 🤣 )

Now, Olivia was me. I was Olivia. I was still handling all the emails and scheduling for my little company.

The value of the perception of an assistant was twofold:

1. To add legitimacy to my small operation 
   (This was an instant confidence boost, especially in times of contract negotiations when I needed to advocate for my price.)

2. To organize the inbox for my real future assistant
   (Upon training my first hire, the process was shorter because they could read real examples of how I wanted business handled.)

Plan for the day that you’ll want help in your business, and you’ll love yourself for it.

➡️ The second thing I did was hire a business coach.

Did I have the cash to hire a coach?

Nope… If I did, I would’ve had a real assistant, wouldn’t I??

But I knew that I needed to skip the line of all the mistakes I could possibly make so that I wouldn’t have to go back to my old job and give up on my dream.

Having someone hold me accountable and show me the way was a huge priority to budget for as early as possible.

So I made it happen.
